If there’s one thing Nintendo needs right now, it’s more money, for sure. It is well known that the Japanese company fiercely protects its intellectual property, to the point of trying to censor unauthorized images or attempting to remove emulators of their old consoles from the Internet. However, Yuzu was a different thing and, frankly, in this case… it makes a lot of sense that they have decided to take it to court.

Mamma mia!

And it is that the Switch emulator created by Tropic Haze was making a fortune with illegal copies of games like ‘Tears of the Kingdom’, and, of course, Nintendo has said that it is absolutely illegal. The complaint was filed on February 26 and in less than a week the two entities have already reached an agreement before things got worse.

The result is that Tropic Haze will have to pay 2.4 million dollars to Nintendo, immediately stop everything related to Yuzu, give the emulator’s website to Nintendo, and also hand over all the modified Switch they have. And, of course, not to do anything similar again if they don’t want Mario’s hand to fall on them even more severely (if that’s possible).

With the end of Yuzu also comes the end of Citra, the emulator for 3DS, which is more complicated since the console is no longer manufactured and Nintendo itself closed access to the online store, where thousands of games ended up in a virtual graveyard that the emulator tried to recover. Tropic Haze has stated that they have always been against piracy and that the project started out of pure passion for Nintendo.

The issue is thorny, yes, but Yuzu was one of the causes of several games leaking ahead of time and, logically, Nintendo couldn’t allow something like that. Because one thing is to print millions and another is not wanting to print a few more.
